What elements make up our memories? What do we choose to remember? How do we piece together information we have about the past? Does it matter if our memories are accurate?
As I created this body of work I consciously thought about the elements I utilized. I burnt the wood in order to bring out the grain. The history of the tree is embedded there, each circle representing the story of a year that passed. The act of burning itself bears witness to the transmutation that happens with the passage from experience to memory, and from life to death. The gold leaf represents how memories are often held in a dream like reality, shimmering and unreal. The majority of text is in Hungarian allowing the foreign words to be replaced by the viewers imagined narrative.
