Terminal
I made these photographs using black and white film and a Widelux 35mm panoramic camera at the Miami International Airport the same year I was making portraits and collecting stories of travelers for my Origins and Destinations project.
During that time I became intimately familiar with its terminals and passageways. Anthropomorphizing, I began to imagine the airport as it’s own entity. A being whose vast corridors are akin to a series of complex arteries conducting the human race from one location to the next. I wondered what its heartbeat sounded like. Was it lonely when dark and vacant late at night? How many joyful greetings and heart-wrenching goodbyes had it witnessed?
I imagined those tender moments invisibly imprinted on its walls, swirling through the air-conditioning ducts, somehow ever present. These panoramic images are my tribute to this giant beast of burden.
